Joël-François Durand studied musicology at the University of Paris VIII and piano at the École Normale de Musique in Paris. He studied composition with Brian Ferneyhough at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, as well as with György Ligeti and Luciano Berio at the Centre Acanthes. He continued his studies in the USA at the University of New York Stony Brook, where he was the pupil of Bülent Arel (composition) and Daria Semegen (electronic music), and he obtained a doctorate in composition in 1988.

After gaining a diploma in composition at the University of La Plata in Argentina, Mario Mary continued his training at the GRM, the Paris Conservatory and Ircam. He obtained a doctorate in the aesthetics, science and technology of the arts, at the University of Paris VIII, where he taught computer-assisted composition (1996-2010).
A teacher of electro-acoustic composition at the Académie de Musique Prince Rainier III in Monaco, co-founder and artistic director of Monaco/Electroacoustique (international electro-acoustic music meetings), this teacher-researcher also lectures in Europe and South America.

Joëlle Léandre studied the double bass with Pierre Delescluse in Aix en Provence before taking advanced classes at the Paris Conservatory. She was greatly inspired by concerts of free jazz and continued her musical discoveries in the USA after having received a bursary from the Center for Creative and Performing Arts of Buffalo (1976). She steeped herself in Afro-American and minimalist music, and met Fred Hopkins, Leroy Jenkins, Butch Morris and John Cage. She is also a laureate of the Villa Medici ‘fuori-i-muri’ (1981), the DAAD of Berlin (1990) and the Villa Kujoyama of Kyoto (1998).
