A French composer born December 17, 1945 in Amiens.
A flautist by training, Christian Eloy studied at the Amiens Conservatory before entering that of Paris. Meeting Ivo Malec, Guy Reibel and learning electro-acoustic composition at Ircam marked a turning point in his activity. Subsequently, in Bordeaux, he taught electro-acoustic composition at the Conservatory and musicology at the University. Deeply devoted to teaching and the transmission of knowledge, he founded the association Scrime, a studio for creation and research into computerised and electro-acoustic music. He also founded an association of composers, Octandre. Christian Eloy has written instrumental, vocal, electro-acoustic and teaching works. His style incorporates the elements of both musique concrète and electronics as also those of the spectral school. His works include Saxotaure, first performed by Serge Bertocchi in 1986; Le jeu des lanternes, commissioned by the French state, 1989; Sui generis premiered by the ensemble Musique Nouvelle in 2001; La dame du soleil, first performed by Proxima Centauri in 2006; La arpa aumentato, an acousmatic piece premiered in Los Angeles in 2009.
