A Brazilian composer and conductor born March 3, 1967 in Sao Jose Do Rio Preto (Brazil).
A pianist by training, Maury Buchala studied at the University of São Paulo in Brazil before following advanced classes in composition and conducting in Europe. He took part, notably, in courses at Acanthes and Ircam and developed an interest in new textures influenced by electronic sounds in instrumental processes.
His music is characterised by its energy and meticulous organisation, as can be noticed in Trichromia for 11 instruments (2004), commissioned by Musique Nouvelle en Liberté, Eindrücke for violin (2004) and Eindrücke for cello (2007), both commissioned by the ensemble l’Itinéraire, and also Tre espressioni for string trio (2010, premiered by the ensemble 2e2m), a piece that alternates moments of tension and of relaxation. His works are also highly virtuosic and are particularly dense structurally, as, for example, his Concerto for violin (2015).
Maury Buchala is also a conductor. He founded the string ensemble Camera Linea, and has conducted various orchestras in Europe and in South America, including the Orchestral Ensemble of São Paulo.
