A French composer born July 4, 1972 in Valreas.
A pianist by training, Samuel Sighicelli trained in instrumental and electro-acoustic composition at the Paris Conservatory, notably with Gérard Grisey. He also attended Alain Savouret’s generative improvisation class and discovered Indian music with Patrick Moutal. A musician-inventor on both piano and electric organ, Samuel Sighicelli improvises with the experimental rock group Caravaggio and his musical activity combines the development of an individual composing style with collective practical work. The co-founder, in 2000, of the musical invention company Sphota with Benjamin de La Fuente and Benjamin Dupé, he works to promote new musical forms on the stage and introduces to it notably video images of which he is a self-taught practitioner. While in residence at the Villa Medici (2003-2004) he became fully aware of this necessity of associating image and/or narration in his works. His compositions, instrumental or acoustic, include Upon the rock (1997), Episode résonnant (2002), Une traversée (2004), Marée noire (2005), L'Île solaire (2009), To be reconstructed (2010).
