Study session: Installing sound

Auditorium de l’Institut finlandais
By nature, sound is mobile.
Ever more creative artistes - visual artists or composers - « install » sound, configure it in particular spaces and in dedicated forms.
For these artistes, who come from totally different horizons, do these new forms concern the same approaches, the same practices ? To which creative and historical necessities do they respond ? What new relationship with the public are they or are they not in the process of setting up ?
Brought together for this study session, those involved in these two disciplines, musical and plastic – creative artistes, historians, musicologists, gallery directors, programmers, critics, etc. – did set out their practical experience in order to attempt an appraisal of what lies beneath the common denominator of « sound installation ».
Plastic and/or musical sound installations: Territorial crossroads ? What bridges ?
On the occasion of the presentation of the musical and plastic installation Chambre du Temps by Claire Renard (composition and original idea) and Esa Vesmanen (design, video and lighting) at the Finnish Institute in Paris (7-30 November 2007), a study day organised in collaboration with the Cdmc and the Finnish Institute.
