Île de créations - Composition competition 2017

Orchestre national d’Île-de-France launches the fifth composition competition Île de créations in partnership with Radio France – France Musique, Musique Nouvelle en Liberté, Éditions Durand / Universal Music Publishing Classical, Association Européenne des Conservatoires and SACEM (Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Éditeurs de Musique). Ivan Fedele, composer and teacher, “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Lettres et des Arts”, teacher at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, Director of the Music section of the Venice Biennale, winner of the Prix International “Arthur Honegger” 2016 will be the patron of the 2017 competition.

Applicants profile
The competition is opened to composers under 33 years old on January 1st, 2017, from any country and enrolled in composition and/or orchestration training program in the European Union within the five last years.

Schedule
Applicants must write two movements, two minutes each,of a five movements of “The Migrant’s Tale” for orchestra. Applications will be closed on August 22nd 2016. The selected candidates will compose the three others movements before November 14th 2016. The public Finale round will take place on February 2nd 2017 in the Orchestra’s House (Alfortville, Paris district).

Instrumentation
The Orchestra cannot exceed the following instrumentation:
Strings: 16.14.12.10.8
Woodwinds: 2 flutes (including piccolo). 2 oboes. 2 clarinets. 2 bassoons
Brasswinds: 2 horns. 2 trompets.
Percussions: 3 players (1 timpanist and 2 percussionists: 1 triangle, 1 snare drum, 1 keyboard-glockenspiel)

Jury
Jury will be led by Enrique Mazzola, the Music Director of Orchestre national d’Île-de-France and the competition’s patron Ivan Fedele and constituted by composers, members of the Orchestra partners.
