At the Théâtre Dunois
It is now already more than a year since Mauricio Kagel died, and the moment has come to pay homage to one of the most remarkable personalities of our time. Few composers have pushed back so far the idea of the work as an overall, autonomous project. With Kagel, each piece implies a complete process, ranging from the composer's own imagination to the actualisation on stage in front of an audience, a process that leaves none of the intermediate phases to chance : the development of an idea, scholarly research in a plethora of fields of human thought, the composition of a highly precise score (down to the smallest technical details), the setting up and organisation of human relationships (often highly dramatised) with all those who take part, directly or indirectly, in the realisation of the piece, not forgetting effective stage, sound and image production…
This way of treating the work as a process has not only turned the domain of musical composition upside down by opening it out to broader perspectives, but has also had a strong influence on the musical practice of instrumentalists and vocalists with regard to the way of envisaging the development of their artistic production. Through his artistic works, Kagel may be considered one of the great thinkers of the contemporary world. It is onto this complexity that the encounter organised by the Cdmc and Aleph will try briefly to shed some light by bringing together researchers and practitioners from various horizons who have had the opportunity of dealing with Kagel's thought during his lifetime.
