On this 23 June, one week before the start of a new session, we shall be having a succession of reports, round tables and musical illustrations, in the presence of major composers and performers who have « made » the history of Acanthes since 1977, but we shall also be having partners – public and private – without whom Acanthes could not have invented the new modes of transmission of contemporary creation for over thirty years.
We shall be dealing with composition and conducting, but also with the various æsthetic evolutions that have driven this period, together with an opening-out to the world, beyond long-standing boundaries that the students of Acanthes now merrily transgress. They came first to Aix-en-Provence then to the Chartreuse of Villeneuve-lez-Avignon. For the past seven years they have been meeting in Metz, housed in the Arsenal building and in the Conservatory areas.
Apart from the official teaching that most of them have naturally practised, this is a moment for questions and for confrontation – the entry, gentle but still effervescent, into a professional career. And a much broader horizon thanks to passageways set up for the benefit of a public that is enquiring, if at times sceptical, and to which, in Metz, the doors of the Arsenal are wide open.
