. 2, 3 and 4 April from 10h to 18h - Italian Cultural Institute, Paris
The year 2008 did mark the twentieth anniversary of the death of Giacinto Scelsi (1905 - 1988). On this occasion, and following the release of the three volumes of Scelsi’s writings by the publisher Actes Sud – Les anges sont ailleurs… (texts on music and art), L'homme du son (poetry), Il Sogno 101 (autobiography) – the Isabella Scelsi Foundation of Rome – in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute, Paris, and the Cdmc – was supporting and organising an international study conference « Scelsi and France » in Paris from 2 to 4 April 2008.
The conference consisted of five sessions and gathered many musicologists of various origins who presented the results of their research on the Italian composer.
The programme was completed by two round tables - one dedicated to Scelsi’s poetry, the other to Scelsi’s performers; five musical interludes were held during the sessions by musicians who have worked directly with the composer.
The conference was accompanied by two monographic concerts given by the Ensemble 2e2m and the Ensemble S.I.C.
An exhibition of biographical documents on Giacinto Scelsi was presented under the direction of the Isabella Scelsi Foundation and Luciano Martinis.
