An Argentine composer and conductor born April 5, 1992.
In parallel with his studies of philosophy and comparative religion at the Fundación Vocación Humana of Buenos Aires, Alex Nante studied the guitar, the piano, the continuo bass, conducting and composition. Obtaining a diploma from the UNA, the Argentinian National University of the Arts (2014), he continued his career in France, studying composition at the Conservatory of Rheims with Daniel d’Adamo, as well as musicology at the University of Paris VIII (2015). He then took advanced classes at the Paris Conservatory, notably with Stefano Gervasoni before preparing a doctorate at King’s College, London, directed by George Benjamin.
Nante has an interest in the worlds of symbolism, mythology, the legends and spiritual traditions of East and West, as well as literature and poetry. He has composed many works of extra-musical inspiration, imbued with a nocturnal, dreamlike atmosphere, as well as a sacred or ritualistic dimension. A prolific composer, Alex Nante has written for all formations, from solo instrument to orchestra, not forgetting the voice. Works include Fulgor for orchestra, first performed by the Daegu Contemporary Music Orchestra in South Korea (2010); La pérégrination vers l’Ouest for orchestra, commissioned and first performed by the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France (2015); Invocation for piano, first performed by Maroussia Gentet at the International Orléans Piano Competition (2017); Ora for string trio and reciter ad libitum, commissioned and first performed by the Trio à Cordes de Paris (2017); Las noches de las piedras for instrumental ensemble, first performed by the ensemble Musikfabrik conducted by Peter Eötvös at the WDR of Cologne (2019); Estrella de la mañana for soprano and chamber orchestra, first performed by Makeda Monnet and the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain conducted by Daniel Kawka (2019). Nante also composes film music (Muere, Monstruo, Muere of Alejandro Fadel, 2018; Der Kaiser von Atlantis of Sebastian Alfie, 2019), as well as teaching pieces (Trois intuitions for violin and guitar, 2015; Life, dream, light, silence – spielBar for at least three performers, 2019).
A conductor actively promoting the diffusion of contemporary music, Nante co-founded the orchestra OANM (Orquesta Amigos de la Nueva Música) in Argentina (2010), as well as the ensemble Écoute, comprising musicians resident in the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris (2014). In addition, since 2018 he has been conducting Awkas, an ensemble specialised in premiering new works.
