A French composer and performer born in Angers.
Pierre-André Athané studied the piano at the Conservatory of Angers. Passionately fond of improvisation and composition, he completed his training in harmony and counterpoint, orchestration, jazz arrangement as well as singing and the stage.
A composer of musical comedies for children, of music for images, the cinema and audiovisual art, the composer of more than 300 ‘musical library’ works, Athané has worked in the worlds of animation, of video games, the stage and dance. He is also the lyricist and composer of songs, notably for the singer Marie Baraton, whom he accompanies in concerts on the guitar.
Athané has also composed concert works: La Loire, a suite for strings with soprano, oboe, violin and cello solos, first performed by the Instrumental Ensemble of the Val de Loire at La Riche (2004); String Quartet n° 1, first performed by the Prima Vista Quartet in Clermont Ferrand (2008); Sonata for cello and piano n° 1, first performed by Gwendeline Lumaret and Sébastien Joly at the cinema Le Balzac in Paris (2009); Solitudes for soprano and strings, first performed by Lys Nordet and the ensemble Gilles Lefèvre in Chartres (2013); Héritages for strings with soprano, violin and cello solos, first performed at the Festival des Promenades Musicales de Lalouvesc (2017).
Pierre-André Athané is honorary president of the SNAC (Syndicat National des Auteurs et Compositeurs), a member and former vice-president of the UCMF (Union des Compositeurs de Musiques de Films). He is also one of the founders of the FFACE (Federation of Film and Audiovisual Composers of Europe).
