ROMITELLI Fausto (1963-2004)

An Italian composer born Februar 1, 1963 in Gorizia (Italia) who died June 27, 2004.
Fausto Romitelli studied at the Milan Conservatory, the Acaddemia Chigiana in Sienna and the Scuola Civica in Milan. In France he completed his training with the computer composition course at Ircam and met Tristan Murail, Gérard Grisey, Michaël Levinas and Hugues Dufourt. French spectralism then became an important source of inspiration for the young composer, who turned towards sound and its sculpture, working on grain, thickness, porousness, luminosity, density and elasticity. Romitelli also held to the decompartmentalisation of art music and traditional music, introducing into his compositions acoustic instrumental colours that are distorted or electric, accessories such as the mirliton (reed pipe) or harmonica, and found inspiration in psychedelic rock and æsthetics of saturation. His strong taste for technology and his search for new horizons are expressed in his compositions by facets of violence, destruction, hypnotism and ritual. His works include Entrance (1995), Lost (1997), Professor Bad trip I à III (1998-2000), Dead city radio, Audiodrome (2003), An index of metals (2003).
