The notion of “contemporaneity” is frequently employed to evoke the music of today, and more specifically art music. However, composers are constantly re-evaluating their relationship to modernity, to the avant-garde and the idea of artistic progress, their relationship to tradition, or indeed their place within a particular socio-cultural context. The object of the symposium is the study of musical creation in France – between 2000 and 2010 and in the wake of the CDMC’s film portraits “The composer at work” – from a resolutely analytical and musicological viewpoint: the main trends, important works, leading figures, etc. The idea therefore is to envisage a production, the study of which is most often completely neglected, and which will be based primarily on sources held by the Cdmc (recordings, scores, etc.).
