Musical Creativity In China

Saturday 17 May 2014 - 15:00

Moderation Arnaud Merlin

Some have left their country to study and work in Europe or the USA, others have gone back to teach in China; some have written grandiose official hymns, others experimental works: the ensemble Les Temps Modernes presents a cross-section of the landscape of contemporary music in China, with first performances of composers from contrasting horizons and backgrounds.

As a prelude to the concert, the musicologist Michèle Tosi will set out the specificities of contemporary Chinese music. This will be followed by a round table led by Arnaud Merlin, with the composers Marie-Hélène Bernard, Frédéric Durieux, François Paris, Xu Yi, Wen Deqing and Jean-Louis Bergerard, artistic director of the ensemble Les Temps Modernes.
