Musical creation and gardens no 4 - Reciprocal influences: from action to interaction

Parc de Bercy - Pavillon du Lac

Coordinator: Sophie Barbaux

This fourth encounter will explore different modes of musical creation and their interaction with nature, gardens, urban or natural landscapes, the spectator and/or his environment becoming part of a work just like any other constituent element.
For example, the sun can enable the sonorisation of poetic, energetically autonomous installations. The wind can improvise its own symphony, making unknown objects vibrate and sound. A walk can trigger, at certain points, the emission of particular sounds, for individual or collective listening. Trees or grass can become musical instruments during some particular activity. Similarly, in a city, the street furniture and parks can produce original music. With today’s interactive telephones one can go for a walk, headphones on, through a aural landscape…
Whether using digital techniques or not, these artistic projects all have a strong, multilayered sense dimension, facilitating different ways of hearing, perceiving, seeing and looking. It offers the (re)discovery of particular relationships between nature and culture… Individual, collective or participative.
