Musical creation and gardens # 2

Musical creation and gardens # 2

Parc de Bercy, Pavillon du Lac

Coordination Sophie Barbaux and Patrick Scheyder

In the spring of 2009 the Cdmc, in collaboration with the City of Paris and ‘Cultures aux gardens’, organised a first day session bringing together musicians and gardeners, landscapers and composers, journalists and philosophers. The vitality of the exchanges and the diversity of the subjects led the partners to offer a new session on this theme of the bringing together of musical creation and the vegetable kingdom.

From commission to creation, a collective adventure

Following the principle of the commissioning body/artiste pairing, several creations in preparation, currently underway or already realised will be related by two voices. There will be discussion of the project’s genesis, intentions, venue and context; the choice of the artiste by the commissioning body; the meeting between the composer and the venue with its specificities (advantages and constraints); the relationship that is established between the garden – the setting for the musical creation – and the artiste who for a time takes possession of it for the projection of his imagination; the necessary means – human, technical and financial; the evolution of the project during its conception, then during its realisation and the exchanges between the commissioning body and the artiste throughout these various phases; finally, the reactions, the feedback, both from the public and from the personnel – gardeners, guardians... – attached to the particular landscape area.
